Arkansas Democrats Adopt Delegate Selection Plan for 2020 National Convention

LITTLE ROCK — The Democratic Party of Arkansas State Committee, led by its Affirmative Action Committee and its Executive Committee, adopted its delegate selection plan for the 2020 Democratic National Convention. The plan specifies policies and procedures for electing Arkansas’s delegates and alternates, who will attend the 2020 Democratic National Convention in Milwaukee to nominate the Democratic nominee for president.

“Arkansas is best served when everyone has a seat at the table. I’m proud of our state for taking this step to affirm our commitment to diversity and inclusion,”  said Democratic Party of Arkansas Chairman Michael John Gray. “I’m excited to welcome Arkansans from across the state to help nominate and elect our next President.”

The delegate selection plan was adopted at the party’s June 1, 2019 State Committee in Hot Springs. The DNC has until September 13 to notify the DPA of any changes. 

  • Arkansas is allocated 36 delegates and 3 alternates.
  • 20 district level delegates will be elected by the congressional district caucuses on May 30, 2020 at the Special State Convention. There are no district level alternates.
  • 4 Party Leaders and Elected Officials (PLEOs) Delegates will be elected at the Special State Convention at a central location in the state.
  • On May 30, 2020 7 at-large delegates and 3 alternates will be elected at the Special State Convention at a central location in the state.

The Affirmative Action Committee of the Democratic Party of Arkansas will continue to implement a robust effort to ensure all communities are represented in Arkansas’s delegation. The Democratic Party of Arkansas is committed to sending a delegation to Milwaukee that reflects the diversity of our party and our state.

The 2020 Democratic National Convention will be held Monday, July 13, 2020 – Thursday, July 16, 2020 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
